Ball Penetrometer

Ball Penetrometer, or “full flow penetrometers”, have been designed to give a projected area 8 times that of the cone shaft.

Advantage of using Ball Penetrometers to standard CPT cones include:

  • Minimal correction to the measured penetration to provide net resistance
  • Improved accuracy and resolution in soft soils (due to the larger projected area)

Probedrill assisted with the early testing of the Ball and T-Bar penetrometers, in collaboration with the University of Western Australia (UWA). We now use a more robust Ball Penetrometer supplied by GeoMil.

Cone Penetration Testing

Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) uses a cylindrical cone pushed vertically into the ground at a constant penetration rate of 20mm per second. During penetration, measurements are made of the cone…

Piston Tube Sampling

Developed by Probedrill, the Piston Tube Sampling technique is based on traditional piston type sampling methods but includes the speed and efficiency of a CPT rig, where suitable soil conditions…
