Piston Tube Sampling

Piston Tube Sampling

Developed by Probedrill, the Piston Tube Sampling technique is based on traditional piston type sampling methods but includes the speed and efficiency of a CPT rig, where suitable soil conditions are available.

A stainless-steel tube (63mm x 500mm) is pushed to the target depth and the piston is retracted as the sample tube is advanced.

Piston tube samples have been tested up to depths of 20m.

Changes to our Piston Tube Sampler means we now have a better seal and therefore have improved sample recovery, achieving 100% recovery from a tailings dam at just qt 0.4MPa.

Improvements have also been made to the locking mechanism to increase efficiency of operation.

This service is available with all our CPT rigs.
